There are 3 main types of leather that could be found on most furniture. Aniline leather, Semi Aniline leather, and Top-Grain Leather. The term “Aniline” simply refers to the dye used during the manufacturing process. Each type has slightly different properties, so please take care in knowing what type of material you are working with before cleaning or maintaining.
Aniline leather
Aniline leather is a sought-after type known for its softness, achieved through use of translucent aniline dyes on high-quality hides. It highlights the natural grain and features of the leather, with non-uniform color absorption adding to its authenticity.
Semi Aniline leather
Semi Aniline leather contains some pigment for color consistency and offers easier cleaning and fewer natural markings.
Top-grain leather
Top-grain leather, achieved by removing the outer layer, is thinner and more cost-effective, yet still provides good durability and a consistent appearance.
